USAID Joins with OECD to Strengthen Capacity of Environmental Agencies

Date of Release:
Sep 23 2008

The Asian Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network (AECEN) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have joined hands to help strengthen environmental agencies in Asia by evaluating human and institutional capacity limitations to effective enforcement.

At a workshop on September 24-25 in Paris, France, senior Asia officials, with support from AECEN, shared experience on capacity challenges, and adopted a framework and benchmarks for assessing the capacity needs. AECEN, funded by the United States Agency for International Development, will use this outcome in conducting an institutional capacity study in selected Asian countries.
