Gov’t to push legislation on environmental impact assessment

With a trial list of projects requiring environmental impact assessment (EIA) announced with immediate effect, the local government has expressed its intention to take further steps towards establishing the long-awaited EIA regime. Consultations for legislating the EIA will be launched at the end of next year, according to the director of the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA).

The DSPA held a briefing conference at the Civil Servants’ Training Centre, where the trial project list for EIA was introduced to over 140 representatives from each public department.
