Light rail plans revised amid safety concerns

Date of Release:
Mar 1 2016

PHUKET: Plans for Phuket’s multi-billion-baht light rail project are being revised again to ensure better safety for motorists using the roads running alongside the proposed track routes, it was announced last week.

The Highways Department, under the Ministry of Transport, has requested that the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTPP) modify the numerous level crossings planned along the route between Phuket International Airport and Phuket Town to reduce the possibility of accidents at intersections.

Opinion: Scrap the airport ferry fallacy

PHUKET: It is hard to believe that 25 million baht in funding has been approved for the design and environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the proposed ‘From the Boat to the Plane’ project.

There is certainly no question that public transport from Phuket International Airport (HKT) to the island’s west coast resort towns is in dire need of improvement, but the answer lies in tackling onshore issues – not taking to the high seas to avoid them.
