On October 25-26, 2011 in Bangkok USAID and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) co-organized a workshop on mainstreaming climate change adaptation and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process under the auspices of the Asian Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network (AECEN) and the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN). Attended by over 30 professionals from Asia, workshop sessions raised understanding on the implications of climate change in project planning; explored opportunities and constraints in using EIA to enhance climate resilience of projects; and shared experience from countries with innovative practices in incorporating climate change considerations in EIA. Experts from the Netherlands, Australia, the US and the Asian Development Bank served as workshop resource persons and facilitated interactive discussions among participants.
